FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg State Athletics will be taking a preview for each team competing in the fall season, covering eight total sports. Over the next two and a half weeks, each team will be broken down into their expectations, key players, and overall outlook for their season and program.  Kicking off the fall season previews is Women's Rugby.
 
Overall
Frostburg State Women's Rugby will embark on their second-ever season, playing in their inaugural season in 2023.  Jeff Horton continues his journey as the program's first-ever head coach, as he welcomes back both Assistant Coach John Baker and Graduate Assistant Sarah Giachetti for their second year as well.
 
Last Season
FSU competed in six matches last year, hosting two at Rugby Field.  The Bobcats captured the program's first-ever win, taking their match against Kent State 37-17 at home.  Senior Kiley Day and junior Lydia Hall were both named to the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) All-Academic Team, as the first players to receive an accolade for the program.   
 
The Returners
Horton returns 14 players from last season, losing two seniors in Day and Jada Malone.  Seniors Grace Hall and Lydia Hall, and juniors Liberty Cawthorn, Jazlyn Romero, Molly Wentling, and Camryn Wyatt will serve as the returning upperclassmen, while Lauren Dils, Camila Garcia, LaJess Jordan, Isabel Meyer, Ella Rothhaar, Birtukan Sherburne, Abigail Stapleton, and Savannah Whipkey will show for returning sophomores.
 
The Newcomers
The Bobcats welcome in a strong freshman class of nine, including Natalie Allen, Awa Kanta, Makenzie Link, Ellis Lysse, Kathryn Scully, Abby Sorenson, Scout Spadoni, Maddie Truhan, and MK Wilmot, most who have played at the club level. In addition, Horton adds sophomore Yasmine Tyndell, junior Jordan Asiamah, and seniors Katie Di Leonardi, Joslyn Foltz, and Rhiana Hall as well.
 
Kick off to Season
Frostburg has a schedule of nine games this upcoming season, opening 2024 on their home ground Saturday, August 31 at 11 AM against Emory & Henry.  FSU then remains at home welcoming in Navy at 1 PM on Saturday, September 7, before going on the road to face Kent State, West Chester, American International, and Warren Wilson.  The Bobcats then return home to host Indiana (Pa.) on Sunday, October 20 for Homecoming, and New Haven on Saturday, October 26 for Senior Day, both before heading to the University of New England to conclude their season on Saturday, November 2.
