FAIRMONT, W.Va. – For the third consecutive year, Frostburg State and Fairmont State will face off for the MEC Acrobatics & Tumbling Championship, with Fairmont sitting at the No. 1 seed and Frostburg coming in at the No. 2 seed.

How They Got Here
Frostburg enters the meet as the No. 8 team in the latest NCATA rankings, with an overall record of 6-2 and a conference record of 4-1. The Bobcats two losses on the year came against two ranked opponents in No. 3 Gannon and No. 7 Fairmont State, as Frostburg did take down ranked opponent at the time, Hawaii Pacific. Frostburg used a strong second half, along with earning their best team score of the year in a 93.190, to defeat Glenville on Friday evening with a final score of 266.315-261.060 to advance to the championship.

Fairmont currently holds the No. 7 spot in the latest NCATA rankings, holding a 7-1 overall record and an undefeated 5-0 record in the MEC to be named the conference regular season champions. The Falcons lone loss of the season came to No. 3 ranked Gannon. Fairmont State went off Friday evening, earning their highest team score of the season with a 95.740, along with finishing with their highest total score during the season as well, using a 272.290-256.800 final to take down West Liberty to advance to Saturday's final.

The Matchup
The Falcons hold the 6-2 advantage in the all-time series between the two programs, as Fairmont snuck a 264.415-264.390 victory during the teams meeting in the regular season, allowing the Falcons to capture the MEC Regular Season Championship title and host the MEC Championships. Having went face-to-face in the last two previous MEC Championships, Fairmont won the crown in 2022 with a narrow 256.695-255.550 win, as Frostburg won their first-ever MEC Regular Season title and MEC Championship in 2023, defeating the Falcons in both the regular season and the championship, with a 265.545-260.610 score in the final.Â

The Athletes
As MEC awards were announced prior to the championships, senior Navah Marierose was honored as the MEC Specialist of the Year, also earning First Team All-MEC Honors. Frostburg placed three other athletes on the all-conference teams, with seniors Abbie Baker and Laiken Spahr being recognized as First Team All-MEC, and senior Sydney Green being named Second Team All-MEC.Â

Fairmont took MEC Athlete of the Year and MEC Freshman of the Year with senior Katey Koehl and freshman Alexis Wilkinson earning the honors, with Koehl being named First Team All-MEC as well. Juniors Izaria McWhorter-Martin and Chloe Smith were also named First Team All-MEC, as senior Reghan Mollohan and junior Rylee Vinson were selected as Second Team All-MEC.Â
