WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. – The Frostburg State acrobatics & tumbling team won on the road at West Liberty by a score of 269.575 to 256.135.
FSU continued to build on their season, winning for the third straight meet, while continuing to improve their total score each competition with a new season high at 269.575.
Frostburg jumped out to an early lead in the Compulsory event, outscoring WLU in all four heats, including a perfect 10 in the pyramid. FSU also scored high marks in the toss (9.8) and acro (9.65) heats on the way to a 37.75-36.75 win.
The Bobcats put together a strong acro event, as all three of FSU's scores came back in the nines and the five-element heat was a 9.85 out of a possible 9.95, while the seven-element scored a 9.75/10. Once more, Frostburg took all three heats to a 28.60-27.50 advantage. FSU continued to impress in the pyramid, with all three start values at the max score of 10 and not scoring below a 9.75 in any of the three heats, including near-perfect scores of 9.90 in both the synch and open heats. In a dominant performance, the Bobcats put up 29.55 points, just 0.45 shy of the possible 30, to the Hilltoppers' 26.60.
The toss event was highlighted by the open heat, where Fostburg put up a 9.75 out of 9.90, while putting up a 9.55 out of 9.90 in the synch for a 27.90-25.60 event win. FSU entered the tumbling event with a significant lead and would improve on it. Starting out with a 9.45 out of 9.80 in the duo pass, the Bobcats went on to post three scores of 9.225 and above in each of the three individual passes. As they have done all year, the senior class members of Sydney Green (9.575/10), Laiken Spahr (9.225/9.75) and Abbie Baker (9.825/10) all impressed in the aerial, 6-element, and open passes, respectively. Additionally, the trio pass team of freshman Joanna Welch, senior Kaitlin Bolton, and sophomore Eleanor Ohngren showed out with an 8.15 out of 8.50.
The Bobcats capped of the night with a solid team performance, scoring 91.25 for a meet total of 269.575, besting the Hilltoppers at 256.135.
With the win, Frostburg picks up an important MEC win and moves to 4-1 on the season, while West Liberty falls to 3-5. The Bobcats next will face off against Fairmont State, who is also undefeated in Mountain East competition, on Sunday, March 25 at 2 PM. For more information visit frostburgsports.com.
