Season-Best Score Gives Acrobatics & Tumbling Home Win Over Pioneers

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team maintained their unbeaten conference record with a home win over Glenville State on Sunday afternoon by a final of 265.905-255.385.

Each side was fairly evenly matched to start in the compulsory event, with FSU narrowly coming out ahead 37.5-37.1 thanks to wins in both the acro and tumbling heats. GSU took the toss heat with an event-high score of 9.75, while the teams tied in the pyramid at 9.7.

The Bobcats got some separation in the acro event, winning each of the three heats for a 28.35-27.30 score. Frostburg scored highest in the 5-element at 9.60, followed closely by the 7-element at 9.55. With both teams sitting at 10 starting values for each pyramid heat, the event looked to be a close contest and lived up to that, with neither side scoring below a 9.5. FSU did just enough to come out ahead, however, using two 9.7's and a 9.75 to win 29.15-28.60 and hold a close 95-93 halftime lead.

Coming out of the second half, the Bobcats turned in an excellent toss event, coming within .15 of each of their start values while winning 28.95-27.40. In the 450 Salto, the teams tied at 9.4, as Frostburg had a 9.5 starting value, before winning the next two heats with scores of 9.75/9.9 and 9.8/9.9.

The tumbling event was all FSU, taking five of the six heats on their way to a 54.625-49.375 victory. Each of the Bobcat solo passes earned at least a 9.45, led by senior Abbie Baker's 9.85 in the open pass. She combined with senior Sydney Green for a 9.35/9.8 in the duo pass, while the latter also put up a 9.45/9.8 in the 6-element. Senior Laiken Spahr had the final solo pass in the aerial, scoring a 9.475 out of 9.75.

Headed into the team event, Frostburg maintained a lead of nearly eight points, to which they again outscored the Pioneers 87.33-85.61, winning the meet 265.91-255.39. FSU's score was their highest of the season and their most in a meet since setting the program record of 273.51 against Baylor in March of last season.

With the win, Frostburg improves to 2-1, while Glenville falls to 1-2. The Bobcats return home on Saturday, March 9 to host Hawaii Pacific at 1 p.m., where it will be Girls in Sports Day at FSU. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
