Women's Lacrosse Handles West Virginia Wesleyan at Home

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team defeated West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night by a final score of 26-4.

Although WVWC was unable to find the back of the net in the first quarter, Frostburg found it nine times. Early in the first minute, sophomore Julia Badolato placed one past the goalie starting the scoring streak. FSU was to score eight more goals in the first, with Badolato knotting her second, freshman Neila Haney firing away two, and junior Camden DeMaio, freshman Dahlia Trippel, sophomore Brittyn Leonard, senior Lily Stephens, and freshman Emily Lamoreaux all getting their first of the night, allowing the Bobcats to end the first quarter up 9-0.

To open the second quarter, sophomore Kerri Hayes scored back-to-back goals to bring the score to 11-0.  WVWC was able to answer back as Kaitlynn Canby scored an unassisted goal for the team's first goal of the day. FSU kept their foot on gas, scoring the next four goals before halftime, with Haney and Stephens striking again, and senior Cammie Schniedwind and freshman Daniella Boss getting their firsts of the day for a 15-1 Bobcat lead at the half..

Within the first minutes of the second half, Stephens and Schniedwind found a way to score again to continue adding to Frostburg's lead. Off a draw control by Trippel, and an assist from Stephens, Lamoreaux knotted her second, putting FSU up 18-1. WVWC earned a free position midway through the third, allowing Reveena Navalgund to put another on the board for WVWC, making the score 18-2. After Haney added another goal at the 8:49 mark, senior Jordan Kenney found her first goal of the day off a free position, for Frostburg's twentieth goal of the game. Haney continued her hot streak for FSU, making her way through the defense and adding another goal to her stat sheet for a  21-2 lead. Just moments later, on a man-up opportunity, freshman Kristina Fardales also found her first goal of the game on a free position, before WVWC would find the back of the net one more time in the quarter, to bring the score to 22-3 heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

WVWC started the fourth with a goal of their own, before Frostburg went on another scoring run to end the game.  Stephens added two more to her total at the 9:57 and 5:07 marks, before freshman Sydney Stone got in on the scoring action, knotting her first of the day as well.  Haney found the back of the net once more, slicing the ball past the goalie, allowing the game to finish with a final of 26-4.

With a terrific team effort, Haney led the way with six goals and four assists for a total of 10 points, with Stephens right behind her with five goals and one assist for a total six points.  Schniedwind dished out five assists along with two goals, for a tally of seven points. 10 other Bobcats recorded a goal, with three of them recording a pair.  Junior McKenna Shay got the start in goal for Frostburg, finishing the day with five saves.
