Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Golden Eagles

CHARLESTON, W. Va. - The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team lost their MEC road game against Charleston (WV) 14-9 on Friday evening.

FSU started the game in complete control, taking the lead through senior Maura O'Neill after peppering UC's goal with shots early on. Both teams struggled to get a rhythm from that point, with turnovers aplenty and no goals for nearly 10 minutes. The Golden Eagles were the ones to break the drought with 1:29 remaining in the quarter, but the Bobcats answered right back with a free position goal from junior Anna Kearney to take a 2-1 lead after the opening quarter.

Frostburg scored quickly in the second on a solo goal by senior Cammie Schniedwind, but the next three scores belonged to Charleston, taking a 4-3 lead with five minutes until halftime. Sophomore Julia Badolato got things evened up at the three-minute mark, but UC got a pair of quickfire goals 30 seconds apart to gain a 6-4 lead at the half.

Freshman Dahlia Trippel scored inside the first minute of the third period to bring the Bobcats within one, then Kearney tied it on another free position goal two minutes later. FSU was plagued by turnovers over the next 11 minutes, allowing the Golden Eagles to score back-to-back goals for an 8-6 lead. Badolato scored her second with 37 seconds left in the frame to head into the final quarter with Frostburg in a one-goal deficit.

Charleston was determined to end the game fighting, scoring three of the first four goals of the fourth period. Kearney earned her hat trick of free position goals, but only could get FSU within 11-8. Trippel's second at the seven-minute mark brought the Bobcats within two, but the Golden Eagles' goalkeeper thwarted anything else that was thrown at her, meanwhile their offense put three on the board for the final 14-9 win.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 8-7 on the year, while Charleston improves to 7-8. The Bobcats stay on the road for their next contest against Notre Dame (Ohio) on Thursday, April 27, with the game slated for 3 p.m. Information and updates will be posted at frostburgsports.com.
