GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Baseball team powered their way to a two-game series sweep of MEC opponent Glenville State with final scores of 17-4 and 3-2 on Monday afternoon.
Both teams stayed quiet in the first two innings of game one, as both pitchers dueled back and forth. Frostburg got their bats going in the top of the third, as junior Nick Trey reached on a Pioneer error and would score on a single from sophomore Christian Shertzer. Sophomore Danny Estrada kept the energy going for the Bobcats, hitting a line-drive home run over the center field fence to increase the lead to 2-0. Sophomore Mikey Guy got in on the offensive action for FSU, as he singled in the next at-bat and scored on a fielder's choice. Junior Ethan Kiple then added two more runs with a home run, bringing the game to 5-0.
Junior Max Proctor was able to keep Glenville scoreless in the bottom of the third, before the Pioneers tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fourth to bring the score to 5-2. Guy led the top of the fifth off with a single to center field, soon to be scored and sent around the bases off a groundball and two Pioneer errors. With the bases loaded, senior Andrew Smith hit a two-RBI single to right field to build the Bobcat lead to 8-2. Shertzer got his second hit of the day, hitting a two-out triple to score two more runs, and then scoring himself on a passed ball, to make the score 11-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
Proctor and freshman Joe Pippin each tallied a strikeout in the bottom of the fifth, combining to face the minimum of Glenville batters for three quick outs. Keeping the momentum going on both sides of the field, Guy hit a leadoff double and would soon score on a line drive to center field by junior Aidan Duda. After a pitching change, Trey drew a walk, allowing another run to score for a 13-2 lead. FSU tallied on two more runs to end the inning on a two-RBI single from Shertzer.

Frostburg kept their offensive momentum going in the second game, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first off a two-run home run by senior Trevor Jones. The Pioneers responded right away in the bottom half of the frame, tying the game at two apiece.
Both teams started to pick it up on defense as both pitchers traded strikeouts back and forth. Senior Jack Maruskin was credited with four strikeouts in four innings, as each team struggled to put the ball in play and get anything going on offense.
After several scoreless innings, FSU finally got something when the time was right, as Guy hit a solo shot over the left field fence in the top of the seventh to break the tie, scoring the first run for either team since the first inning. Kiple, who had come in to pitch the bottom of the sixth, kept Glenville scoreless in the final two innings, earning his second win of the year and sealing the 3-2 victory for Frostburg.
Guy led the offense for FSU, finishing 4-for-8 on the day with four runs and an RBI. Shertzer tallied three hits in four at-bats to go with one run and five RBI, while Kiple finished 4-for-7 and a total of two runs and two RBI.
