Acrobatics & Tumbling Earns First-Ever Win Over #7 Fighting Falcons

FAIRMONT, W. Va.- The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team earned their first-ever victory over seventh-ranked Fairmont State, 272.410 - 271.915 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats got some impressive marks in the compulsory event, scoring a 9.85 in the pyramid heat and a 9.80 in the toss heat, but the Fighting Falcons were equal to the task, scoring a 9.8 and 9.9 in those respective heats, narrowly winning the event 37.40 - 36.50.

In the second event, each team again was almost dead even, with an acro score that favored Fairmont 27.8-27.65. The hosts scored a 9.4 in the 5-element and a 9.5 in the 7-element, as Frostburg's highest score came in the latter heat at 9.75. During the pyramid event, it was the Bobcats' turn to secure a close victory, scoring a near-flawless 9.95 in the open heat to go with scores of 9.6 and 9.75 in the inversion and synchronized heats, respectively, to win the event 29.4-29.3. The Fighting Falcons still held a slight 94.5-93.55 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Frostburg got the highest score possible for themselves in the open toss with a 9.90, the same as their start value, on their way to winning the toss 28.3-28.15. The Bobcats had one of, if not their best, tumbling events of the year, earning high marks in the aerial (9.625), 6-element (9.475), and open passes (9.900), all helping to secure the 55.35-54.975 event victory.

Ultimately, the meet winner would have to be decided by the team event, as going in Fairmont held a 177.625-177.200 lead. Frostburg led off with a 95.21, the program's best-ever event score. The Fighting Falcons followed with a 94.29, as the final score was announced, the Bobcats celebrated, taking the closest of victories 272.410-271.915.

The win marked the first time that Fairmont has lost a regular season MEC meet since the conference added the sport, and the first Frostburg victory in the series that dates back to Spring of 2021, now at a total of six meets.

With the win, the Bobcats rise to 6-0 while Fairmont falls to 5-1 on the season. Frostburg will be back in action on Wednesday, March 22 at 7 PM where they travel to Waco, TX to take on the No. 1-ranked Baylor Bears. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com
