FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team maintained its undefeated start to the season with a tri-meet sweep over East Stroudsburg and Saint Leo on Sunday afternoon.
During the meet, FSU honored its trio of seniors, as Sydney Williamson, Kendra Rabo, and Virginia Krasnay finish out their respective Bobcat careers.
The Bobcats began the meet in strong fashion, scoring at least a 9.4 in three out of the four compulsory heats, including 9.75 scores in both the pyramid and toss, winning the event 37.35 to ESU's 29.7 and Saint Leo's 34.45. During the acro event, Frostburg expanded its lead, with each heat scoring above a 9, highlighted by the 5-element earning a 9.7 and the 7-element scoring a 9.55. The results brought a whopping 28.3 event score, with the Warriors earning 25.15 and the Lions at 21.9.
As they have done all season, FSU wowed in the pyramid event, totaling 29.45 points out of a possible 30, with the standout being a 9.95 in the open heat. East Stroudsburg finished at 25.35 and Saint Leo earned a 26.6 to bring the halftime scores to Frostburg 95.1, ESU 80.2, and SLU 82.95. The toss event out of the half brought more joy for the Bobcats, as they again won each heat, including a 9.65 in the open heat. They earned a total of 27.6 to the Warriors' 23.85 and the Lions' 24.5.
Frostburg used a strong second half of the tumbling event to continue their streak of event wins, with all of the individual passes scoring at least 9.15. Juniors Laiken Spahr (9.475) and Abbie Baker (9.875) impressed in the aerial and open passes, respecitvely, with FSU scoring a total 50.45 to East Stroudsburg's 41.125 and Saint Leo's 46.8. In the finale of the team event, the Bobcats put a cherry on top of their fine meet, scoring an 89.78, with ESU earning a 72.36 and SLU having a 79.65.
As the final scores were tabulated, Frostburg won in convincing fashion, totaling 262.930 points to the Warriors' 217.535 and the Lions' 233.900.
The sweep gives FSU a 5-0 record on the year, while ESU falls to 0-3 and Saint Leo now stands at 1-2. The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, March 18 to face No. 7 Fairmont State in a rematch of last season's MEC Championship meet, set to begin at 2 p.m. Information and updates will be posted at frostburgsports.com.
