FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's hosted the Alderson Broaddus Battlers at Bobcat Arena on Wednesday evening, coming away with an impressive 87-72 victory.
The Bobcats opened the game with back-to-back threes from junior Sean Brown, Jr. and senior Agyei Edwards, then junior Jason Murphy battled underneath the basket for back-to-back baskets as FSU blitzed to a 10-2 lead. Edwards added in another triple, then senior Jamil Jones scored in the paint to go ahead 20-10 with just over 12 minutes left in the half. The Battlers fought back, knocking down some tough shots to pull within six just two minutes later.
Senior Jaylon Johnson entered the game and showed his ability to get to the basket, driving past the AB defense for two layups, then graduate Vincent Smalls got to the basket for an easy lay-in of his own. Frostburg's defense locked down at the 10-minute mark, holding Alderson Broaddus scoreless for over four minutes, as the offense continued to click to give the Bobcats a 22-point lead with five minutes remaining at 41-19. Graduate Bo Schene added to the fun by knocking down a three, followed by a powerful drive to the basket on a fine assist by Edwards. Junior Jaylin Albury added another three for the Bobcats to make the score 51-33, with a late free throw by the Battlers putting their halftime deficit at 17.
The Bobcats opened the second half with a Murphy lay-up, with AB bringing renewed energy as they looked to get back in the game, cutting the lead down to nine with just over six minutes gone. Johnson, Edwards, and Murphy regained some momentum with a trio of scores to get the lead back to 64-51. Schene and Johnson both added triples of their own, making the score 72-58 Bobcats with just over five minutes to play. Edwards continued his scoring performance with another pair of layups, as the Battlers couldn't find a run in them to get the game close. FSU got themselves over the line with six straight makes at the charity stripe to bring the final score to 87-72.Â
Frostburg led the game from start to finish and have now won three of their past four games and have already matched last season's win total with five games left to play in the regular season.
