FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team dropped a home matchup against Glenville State by a final score of 97-88.
The Bobcats won the tip and junior JayShaun Freeman hit senior Sean Brown Jr. to open the game with three-pointer. Junior Koby Baptiste followed that with an and-one for another three points and an early 6-0 lead. Freeman answered a Pioneers made three with bucket in the paint to make the game 10-6 FSU. The Bobcats showed off the press early in the first half with senior Jaylon Johnson getting a steal, leading to a deep ball from junior Robby Williams. Junior Sebastian Gahse crashed the offensive boards and followed with a make of his own, pushing the Bobcat lead to 15-12. Baptiste made a layup then created a steal that led to another layup to make the game 21-14 FSU.
Williams then hit a jumper to right before the midway point of the first half to put the Bobcats up four. Slowly but surely, the Pioneers began to heat up from beyond the arc, taking the lead on a three from Dominiq Penn where he was fouled on the play and going up 32-30. With FSU unable to get the ball to fall through the net, GSU pushed out to a 50-36 lead with 3:36 remaining in the half. Freeman made the last basket of the half for FSU, with the score going into half having Frostburg down 53-39.
GSU came out from halftime and increased its lead to 28 points with a hot start, continuing their momentum from the first half. Sophomore Justin Roseme gave the Bobcats a burst of momentum with a layup and then a pair of made free-throws on the next possession for a 71-47 Pioneer lead. FSU again closed the gap with three straight scores coming from Gahse, Freeman and Roseme. At the nine-minute mark Brown Jr. hit a three to make things 80-56 GSU, followed by a tough lay-in from senior Cole Harshman.
In the final seven minutes, freshman Logan Lewis took over the offense, scoring Frostburg's next eight points, followed by back-to-back Johnson treys and a coupel free throws to bring things to 90-74. Lewis bullied his way into the lane a further three times, scoring on each one, while Roseme ended the contest with a pair of triples for the final 97-88 score.
The Bobcats were led by 22 points from Lewis on 10-of-15 shooting. Baptiste had himself a strong double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds to go along with 13 points and a pair of steals.
With the loss, Frostburg is now 1-10 on the season, while Glenville improves to 5-4. FSU will have some time off before playing again at Bobcat Arena on Saturday, December 30 against Bowie State at 3 PM. For more information visit frsotburgsports.com
