FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's wrestling program defeated Fairmont State for their third straight win to open the season, winning on a last round pin for a team score of 21-20. 
 
The Bobcats opened the night sharing Bobcat Arena with the Frostburg women's wrestling team facing off against Delaware Valley. Frostburg was able to welcome back several former wrestling alumni and compete in front of a great turnout crowd. 
 
To open the match, freshman Alex Bellarin started strong, earning a major decision for an early 4-0 lead at 125 lbs. In the 133 lb. matchup, both wrestlers refused to give much away, with the 2-0 win going to the Falcons. Fairmont picked another decision in a tight 141 lb. match. 
 
Freshman Gage Heilbrun got the Bobcats back in front, picking up a 10-3 decision while controlling the 149 lb. match. Mason Buckler, another Bobcat freshman, kept things going and earned an important major decision, winning 13-3. Freshman Liam DeBaugh dominated his 165 lb. match, winning 14-4 and setting Frostburg up with a 15-6 overall match lead. 
 
Fairmont would make a strong comeback after falling behind, winning the next three weight classes by decision, tech fall and pinfall to position themselves in front of Frostburg 20-15 with only one match remaining. Heavyweight freshman Gavin Bage took the mat needing a pin to pick up the win for the Bobcats and didn't waste any time asserting himself, scoring an early takedown before recording his second-straight first period pin at home to close out the meet, earning Frostburg the dramatic 21-20 victory. 
 
With the win, the Bobcats move to 3-0 on the early season, while Fairmont falls to 2-1. Frostburg will next host Notre Dame (Ohio) in another Mountain East matchup on Saturday, November 11 at 4 PM. For more information visit frostburgsports.com
