WHEELING, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Swimming team took down both Wheeling and West Virginia Wesleyan in their season opener on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Liz Perry, freshman Gabriella Betancourt, and juniors Kendall Hooper and Natasha Paciello began the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:55.84, where they were immediately followed by senior Maree Dieterich, junior Amaya Burke, and freshmen Jayme Meadows and Alexis Ramsey in 1:58.31.

Junior Lydia Nebiolo earned FSU's first individual win of the day, taking the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:03.28. Junior Tiernan Taggart placed third in 11:43.16, also earning the same result in the 500-yard free at 5:41.35.

Frostburg used the 1-2 punch of Perry (25.71, 56.53) and freshman Gabriella Douglas (26.16, 57.49) to take the top two spots in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyles. Hooper and junior Natasha Paciello would earn the final solo victories of the day, with the former taking the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.10 and the latter winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.84.

Freshman Rachel Rickabaugh (2:05.94) and junior Amanda Soustek (2:10.54) would place second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard free, the same spots as Hooper (2:19.39) and Betancourt (2:25.71) in the 200-yard IM and Nebiolo (1:02.71) and Meadows (1:04.05) in the 100-yard backstroke. Ramsey went on to take third in the 100-yard fly at 1:05.33, while Dieterich placed the same in the 100-yard breast at 1:16.70.

The team of Burke, Douglas, Meadows, and junior Alexis Council finished out the meet by winning the 200-yard free relay in 1:43.50.

With the meet sweep, the women begin their season 2-0 and will next face Davis & Elkins and Cal (Pa.) on Saturday, October 21 at 1 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
