Men's Swimming Opens Season With Sweep of Wheeling and WVWC

WHEELING, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Swimming team took down both Wheeling and West Virginia Wesleyan in their season opener on Saturday afternoon.
 
FSU kicked off the meet with an intersquad battle, as top spot in the 200-yard medley relay was shared between a pair of Frostburg teams. Seniors PJ Emrich and Noah Loper joined sophomores Josh Horner and Julian Najarro Sedar to tie their fellow competitors in seniors Jackson Miller and Andy Creelman and freshmen Daniel Newton and Dylan King, finishing with the exact same time of 1:40.30. The team of senior Matthew Rotman, junior Luka Smith, sophomore Andrew Wetherhold, and freshman Tory Reynolds would go on to finish above both WU and WVWC at 1:46.88.
 
The meet would turn into a heavy FSU affair, taking multiple races of all top-three finishers. Junior Nate Canapp (4:59.98, 10:13.40) and freshman Jack Bond (5:10.97, 10:29.03) finished 1-2 in both the 500 and 1000-yard freestyles. In the former race, sophomore Alex Whitton placed third at 5:15.55, while in the latter senior Myles Henderson had the same result at 11:09.97.
 
In the 200-yard free, senior Noah Loper (1:49.87), freshman Abe Bias (1:52.20), and junior Jaden Tipton (1:54.41) posted the three quickest times. Loper would also finish second in the 100-yard free at 48.87.
 
Rounding out the free sprints, Sedar came runner-up in the 50 with a time of 22.47. He would then lead the Frostburg pack in the 100-yard butterfly at 53.19, followed by King (53.69) and Wetherhold (56.25).
 
Miller (57.52) and Horner (58.78) placed second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke, while Emrich earned himself a pair of top-three finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.69) and the 200-yard IM (2:06.74).
 
Concluding the meet, Wetherhold, Creelman, Bias, and junior Mikkel LeBlanc won the 200-yard free relay in 1:33.01
 
With the meet sweep, the men begin their season 2-0 and will next face Davis & Elkins in California, Pa. on Saturday, October 21 at 1 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
