Catawba Wins Late Races to Defeat Men's Swimming on the Road

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Frostburg State Men's Swimming team had a narrow road loss to Catawba by a score of 134.5-123.5 on Friday afternoon.
 
Sophomore Nate Canapp picked up the Bobcats' first victory of the day in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:52.83, joined not too long after in the win column by fellow sophomore Luka Smith in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.06).
 
Also earning a win was freshman Julian Najarro Sedar (52.79) in the 100-yard butterfly, followed closely by junior Andy Creelman (54.13) in second place. FSU's top event of the meet was the 200 breaststroke, where junior PJ Emrich (2:18.74), Canapp (2:21.43), and Smith (2:27.35) went 1-2-3 to sweep the podium spots.
 
Junior Jackson Miller had a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.86) and the 200-yard IM (2:03.64), while junior Noah Loper was runner-up in the 200-yard free (1:49.80).
 
The meet came down to the final event pair of events, the 200 IM and the 400-yard free relay, in which the Indians secured first place in both races to take the win.
 
With the loss, FSU falls to 2-2 on the year, while Catawba improves to 2-5. The Bobcats return to the pool on Saturday, January 14 for a home tri-meet against MEC foes Wheeling and West Virginia Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Information and updates will be posted at frostburgsports.com.
