2022 MEC Women's Lacrosse Championship Preview

FROSTBURG, Md. – The second-seeded Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team will play for the 2022 Mountain East Women's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday, May 8, as they face off against No. 1 seed Notre Dame (Ohio) in a rematch of last year's championship, where the Falcons came out on top 14-10.
 
How They Got Here
After a disappointing start to the season with just one win through the first six games, FSU rattled off nine straight wins to take their overall record to 10-6, with a 7-1 conference record. The Bobcats defeated Charleston (WV) in the semifinal 23-7, using a big second half to advance to the championship game.
 
NDC also got off to a rough start, with just one win through their first five games, though they too recovered to get to a winning record at 9-6 with a 7-1 record in the MEC, sharing the regular season title with Frostburg. The Falcons used an impressive defensive effort to defeat Davis & Elkins 22-0 in their semifinal matchup.
 
The Matchup
The teams split the season series for the second straight year, with Notre Dame taking a big 22-8 win at home and FSU responding with a thrilling 13-12 victory at Bobcat Stadium. NDC holds the slight edge in the all-time series, with the difference between the teams being last year's championship game.
 
The Players
Frostburg comes into the contest with an attack led by MEC Offensive Player of the Year and first team All-MEC selection Stephanie King (42 goals, 14 assists) and second team honorees Lilly Stephens (43 goals, 7 assists) and Anna Kearney (37 goals, 6 assists). A young, do-it-all midfield comprises of first team selection Kerri Hayes (22 goals, 4 assists), second team members Julia Badolato (15 goals, 3 assists) and Krissy Milburn (13 goals, 13 caused turnovers, 14 groundballs, 41 draw controls), and honorable mention Lindsay Kohlmann (11 goals, 22 assists, 89 draw controls). The senior-laden defense features first team honorees Mackenzie Cramer (10 caused turnovers, 25 groundballs) and Delaney Devers (14 caused turnovers, 20 groundballs), along with Chloee Johnson (9 caused turnovers, 6 groundballs) as an honorable mention. Goalkeeper Nicole Gray (115 saves, 29 groundballs) has made an instant impact as the last line of defense, earning second team All-MEC.
 
The Falcon offense is led by first team All-MEC selections Ebony Reddick (29 goals, 17 assists) and Emileigh Scott (54 goals, 10 assists, league-best 167 draw controls), along with honorable mentions Megan Dano (21 goals, 23 assists) and Charlotte Vari (21 goals, 15 assists). The midfield features first team honoree Piper Hammond (24 goals, 12 assists, league-best 26 caused turnovers) and second team member Joselyn Storm (22 goals, 14 assists). On defense, first teamer Alicyn Loberg (18 caused turnovers, 23 groundballs) is joined by second team selection Nia Griffith (11 caused turnovers, 18 groundballs).
 
The game will be live from Mueller Field on the campus of Notre Dame at 1 p.m.
