WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. – The Frostburg State acrobatics & tumbling team took down West Liberty in their final regular season meet on Saturday afternoon, winning by a final score of 258.82 – 247.915. The win secures the Bobcats a place in MEC Championships for a second straight year, while also ending their regular season with a winning record in just their second season of competition.
The Bobcats came out and had a solid compulsory event, taking a half point lead over the Hilltoppers. FSU scored well in the pyramid and toss heats, with scores of 9.7 and 9.5, respectively. Frostburg again separated themselves from WLU with an acro event score of 28.5, beating out the Hilltoppers by 1.25 points. The last event in the first half was the pyramid, where the Bobcats did not disappoint, scoring 29 out of a possible 30 points. In heats one and three, FSU put up 9.8 of a possible 10 points, ending the first half with a 92.6 – 89.5 advantage.
The first event in the second half was the toss, where Frostburg hit a 9.6 out of a possible 9.9 to help total 26.6 and again add to their lead. FSU landed big scores in the Tumbling event in the aerial pass with a 9.65 and the open pass with a 9.325. Going into the team event, the Bobcats maintained a marginal lead and were able to close things out with a strong performance. FSU scored an 87.07 out of a possible 101.17 to the Hilltoppers' 83.29, securing a near-11 point 258.82-247.915 victory.
Frostburg ends their regular season with a 5-4 record, while WLU finishes at 4-4. With remaining meets left to still determine the final standings of the MEC Championships the Bobcats will wait to see their final seeding, which could be anywhere between the second and fourth seed.
