FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team hosted a tri-meet against Glenville State and No. 4 Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon, falling to Quinnipiac and defeating the Pioneers in a hard-fought effort.
The first event to take place was the compulsory event made up of skill sets that each team must demonstrate. The compulsory event includes acro, pyramid, toss and tumbling heats. Upon completion of the compulsory event, Frostburg earned 36.45 out of 40 possible points, Quinnipiac finished with 38.15 points, and Glenville earned 34.05 points.
The second event of the meet was the acro event. FSU tallied 28.2 out of a possible 29.8 points, scoring highest in the third heat, earning a 9.65 out of 10. Quinnipiac added 29.35 points onto their total, while Glenville added 18.8 points to their total.
The final event of the first half was the pyramid event, which took place over three heats. In the open heat of the pyramid event, Frostburg tallied their highest score of the day with a 9.75 out of 10 possible points. Overall, FSU added 28.7 points to their overall score. Quinnipiac scored 29.15, while Glenville scored 24.1. Quinnipiac would lead at the end of the first half with a total score of 96.65, followed by Frostburg with 93.35 and Glenville with 76.95 points.
After halftime, the teams went onto compete in the toss event. Frostburg scored a total of 26.15 out of a possible 27.2 points. Quinnipiac went on to add 26.85 to their total, while Glenville scored 22.1 points.
The fifth event of the afternoon was the tumbling event which is composed of six different heats of tumbling. Frostburg's highest tumbling score of the day was a 9.625, while the team tallied 51.4 points overall. Quinnipiac added 55.45 points, while Glenville scored 44.875 points.
The final event of the day was the team event. Glenville's event scored a 75.04, which brought them to a meet total of 218.965 points. Quinnipiac scored a 93.08 in their routine, bringing them to 272.030 points on the day. Frostburg went onto score 86.62 out of a possible 100.62 points. FSU would knock off Glenville with a score of 257.52-218.965, but fall short against Quinnipiac, who scored a season-high 272.030 points on the day.
With the split, Frostburg stands at 3-3 on the year, while Glenville is now 0-4 and Quinnipiac is now 4-1. FSU will return to action on Saturday, March 19 as they hit the road to take on Davis & Elkins at 2 p.m.. For more updates and information visit frostburgsports.com.
