Baseball Remains Perfect on the Year with Saturday Sweep

WILSON, N.C.- The Frostburg State Baseball team swept a doubleheader against Chowan and Mid-Atlantic Christian for the second time over the weekend by scores of 4-3 and 12-2, respectively.

In game one, the Bobcats were outhit 8-7, but the pitching efforts from sophomore Ben
Vok, junior Ethan Kiple, and freshman Jacob Stretch were enough to claw out the win. After Vok went four innings, giving up three earned runs, Kiple and Stretch combined to throw five innings of shutout baseball, only giving up three hits. Kiple was the pitcher of record as he now moves to 1-0 on the season and Stretch was credited with the save, his first of the year.

The Frostburg offense came out quieter than Friday afternoon, when they put up 32 runs. Sophomore AJ Campbell carried the load for the Bobcats, as he homered for the third time of the weekend and drove in three runs in the game. Junior Andrew Smith contributed two hits and scored a run as well.

In game two, the Bobcat bats came alive, with freshman Danny Estrada leading the game off with a blast to get the early lead, then two batters later, sophomore Chase O'Dell contributed one of his own to get the early 2-0 lead. The Mustangs would answer with two of their own in the bottom of the first, but that turned out to be the last runs surrendered by Frostburg pitching. Junior Will Grove went four innings, senior Josh Colliflower went three innings of one-hit ball to earn the victory, then Smith and sophomore
Jarek Bacon closed out the contest, shutting down the Mustang offense.

Freshman Jacob Stretch finished the contest with a career-high three hits and three RBI to lead the Frostburg offense. O'Dell contributed three RBI as well, to go along two extra base hits.

With the victories, Frostburg remains a perfect 7-0 on the season. The Bobcats head back down to North Carolina on Friday, March 4 to take on New Haven at 2:00 P.M. For more information on Frostburg sports, visit frostburgsports.com.
