Women's Lacrosse 2022 Season Preview

FROSTBURG, Md.- Frostburg Sports will be taking a preview of each team competing this Spring season over the next couple of weeks to see expectations, key players, and what the overall outlook of each program will be. Next up in the series is Women's Lacrosse.
 
Overall: Women's lacrosse will play its 55th season in 2022, including it being their third season in Division II. Head coach Taylor Sindall enters her second year at the helm of the program with a record of 10-5.

Last Season: The Bobcats completed their first full season with a 10-5 record, going 8-2 in the MEC and making an appearance the MEC Championship game. It was the most wins for the program since achieving the same number in 2004.

The Returners: Attack: Seven of the top eight scorers return from last season, including All-MEC players Stephanie King, Anna Kearney, Cammie Schniedwind, and Lilly Stephens. King returns as a fifth-year senior, while Schniedwind and Stephens are back as juniors and Kearney is now a sophomore.
 
Midfield: All-MEC selection Lindsay Kohlmann, Maura O'Neill, and Shelby Brunett return the bulk of the minutes in the middle of the field, all supplying equal parts offense and defense. A few key players also return having missed chunks of last season through injury to provide depth.
 
Defense: All-MEC honorees Mackenzie Cramer and Emma Neff, along with Emily Chick headline the returners in front of goal, as each are now seniors in the back line. Ayanna McDonald and Chloee Johnson also return to provide experience as upperclassmen.
 
Goalkeepers: Both Whitney Crosby and McKenna Shay return after splitting almost all of last season, with Crosby earning All-MEC honors. Each will provide competition to the other once again this season.

The Newcomers: Several new faces have impressed in the preseason, as the team brought in 13 freshmen, several of which will earn immediate playing time.

The Schedule: FSU begins the season in Indianapolis to take on #25 Davenport on Friday and #2 UIndy on Saturday. They then play six of their next seven games on the road, with their home opener against Missouri Western splitting either side on March 21. MEC play begins on March 30 with a road trip to Alderson Broaddus, then the conference home opener is April 7 against West Virginia Wesleyan. The regular season rounds out with senior day in a home game on April 30 against Davis & Elkins.
