GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team fell to Glenville late on the road 91-88.
Â
Frostburg broke the ice in the game when junior Jason Murphy found senior Agyei Edwards for a knock-down three. Murphy would find his own basket the next trip down the floor for a 5-0 FSU start. Graduate Juston Bailey would hit back-to-back threes to take the game to 11-6, then junior Tairell Fletcher found his groove with three straight baskets, taking the FSU lead to 23-13. FSU would keep a ten-point margin until Glenville gained momentum under the five-minute mark. A Jordan Smith three would push the game to 36-31, but a pair of foul shots from Fletcher and an Edwards layup took the Bobcats into the half up 43-36. The Bobcats had the lead for almost the entire half, shooting over 44% from the field and going 4-of-8 from behind the arc.
Â
With the lead and momentum, Frostburg would come out of the break and find their big center, Murphy, for the first points of the half. A made layup from Edwards two minutes into the second made the score 51-38. Bailey would continue his solid performance, hitting a jumper and making the score 55-48. The Pioneers would make a push to tie the game up at 59-59 at the 11:02 mark. FSU would get a three from Fletcher to recapture the lead at 62-60. Bailey would hit a shot from deep and halfway through the period, the Bobcats would hold a five-point lead at 67-62. Fletcher drove the lane with the shot clock running down and kicked out to find Edwards for a catch-and-shoot three for a 72-66 lead. The Pioneers would make back-to-back baskets to cut the Bobcat lead to one. Bailey knocked down a long two followed by a three from Edwards to stretch the lead back to 77-73. The sides continued trading baskets until the Pioneers took a one-point lead at 86-85. Graduate Bo Schene would force a tough GSU shot that led to a breakout from Fletcher, who was fouled going the basket. He would hit one of two, making the game even at 86. The Pioneers would go four-for-four at the line to get a 90-86 lead late in the game. Junior Jaylin Albury would quickly take the ball end-to-end for an FSU layup, but the Pioneers would hold off the last efforts from the Bobcats to win 91-88. Â Â Â
