FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State Men's Basketball team lost at home to Alderson Broaddus 79-76 on a heartbreaking buzzer beater.

The Battlers started out on the front foot with a 6-1 lead as FSU's offense struggled in the opening minutes, as their first bucket came on a layup from senior Sean Patterson three minutes into the game. After the first media timeout, the Bobcats began to find their shots, cutting the lead to 13-9 on a Patterson dunk. Frostburg used the three ball to tie the game a few minutes later, with graduates Jihar Wiliams and Canaan Bartley firing in from distance to make it 17-17, then a layup from junior Agyei Edwards gave FSU its first lead.

AB retook the lead at 23-19 before the Bobcat offense caught fire, scoring the next 11 points to take a 30-23 lead on a three-pointer from junior Micheal Tate, Jr. The teams traded points as the Battlers kept things close until back-to-back threes from Bartley and Williams again. After an AB free throw, Frostburg took command with an 8-0 scoring run to push the lead to 48-32, which turned into a 48-35 going into the half.

Patterson came out with the opening offense in the second half, scoring two straight buckets to get the lead to 52-37. Frostburg continued to keep a double-digit lead at 58-45 but struggled offensively for much of the rest of the half. The Battlers were able to claw their way back in, holding FSU scoreless for five minutes, getting within three at 58-55, and eventually taking a 64-62 lead on a three from K.J. Walker. AB took a 72-67 lead going into the final media timeout of the half, but the Bobcats responded with seven straight points, including back-to-back Bartley layups to take a 74-72 lead. The Battlers got the next four points to go up 76-74, but Bartley hit back with another layup with six seconds left to tie things. AB took a quick inbound off the make as Walker drove down the court and passed off to Jalen Knott, who drilled a deep three at the buzzer to win 79-76.

Bartley led the Bobcats in scoring with 16 points, joined in double figures by Patterson with 13, and freshman Justin Roseme had a team-high three assists.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 5-9 on the year, while the Battlers improve to 7-5. FSU returns to action next Wednesday, January 12 to face West Liberty at home. Tip time is set for 7:30 pm, for information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
