SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio- The Frostburg State men's basketball team went on the road to face Notre Dame (Ohio) where they dropped the contest 94-86.
In the first half, NDC started the game off strong with a 10-2 lead, but a three-pointer from graduate Jihar Williams would get FSU some momentum. The Falcon offense stayed hot, while the Bobcats would start to claw their way back with a couple layups from junior Agyei Edwards and a three from graduate Canaan Bartley. Notre Dame would control a double-digit lead for much of the half, but Frostburg put together a late scoring run with a three from junior Bo Schene and five straight points from Edwards to get back to 43-37. The Falcons would not slow down, however, and held the lead at the end of the half 58-45.
In the second half, NDC expanded their lead to 17, their largest of the game at 65-48. From there, Frostburg would begin to slow down the Falcon offense. Both teams would trade shots, as Schene and Bartley both provided offense with layups and jumpers. Edwards went on another five-point spurt to get FSU to within 74-68, but Notre Dame responded with five straight of their own. The Falcons pushed out to another double-digit lead at 87-73, but Schene knocked down a jumper, followed by threes from Williams and sophomore Jaylon Johnson to get back within six. Despite the late comeback attempt, the Bobcats couldn't get enough stops down the stretch, as NDC came out 94-86 winners.
Edwards would lead the team in points with 23 and tie for the lead in rebounds with senior Sean Patterson with five each. Johnson had a solid defensive night, swiping a game-high four steals.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 5-8 while the Falcons rise to 9-4 on the season. Frostburg's next opponent will be at home against Alderson Broaddus on Saturday, January 8 at 4 PM. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
