FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State women's basketball team fell short in their second half comeback attempt at the hands of the West Liberty Hilltoppers on Wednesday night, 66-58.
WLU came out firing from three-point range as they hit three triples and jumped out to a 23-11 lead after the first quarter. They continued to hit from long range in the second quarter as they hit another trio of threes to pull ahead at half 44-25.
The Bobcats came out in the second half a motivated team, as they outscored West Liberty 16-13 in the third quarter. Senior Morgan Dombroski contributed four of her total nine points, nailing a three and adding a free throw to help FSU claw back.
In the fourth quarter, Frostburg went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to five with four minutes left to play, thanks to sophomore Niya Moore going 4-4 from the line and a clutch three-pointer by junior Maggie Sharp. After two buckets by the Hilltoppers, sophomore Rhiana Hall rattled in two free throws and Sharp earned a bucket and the foul to bring the deficit back to four. The Hilltoppers went on to make five of their next six foul shots to end the game and pull away from the Bobcats 66-58.
Sharp led Frostburg with 17 points and went 6-7 at the charity stripe. Hall added 14 points and led the team in rebounds (8) and assists (3), while adding three steals and a block in an all-round effort.
With the loss, Frostburg drops to 2-11 on the year and West Liberty moves up to 10-5. Frostburg's next game will be Saturday, January 15 at 2 P.M. as they travel to face Wheeling. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
