SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio- The Frostburg State Women's Basketball team went on the road to face Notre Dame (Ohio), falling 69-60. The game was a rescheduled contest from last Wednesday.
Â
Frostburg started out the game well with a layup from junior Ciara Thomas, then turned defensive stops into offense later in the quarter to push to a 12-5 lead on a layup from sophomore Rhiana Hall. NDC was able to get back to within four at 14-10, but senior Morgan Dombroski went to the free throw line with six seconds left and hit one of two free throws, as the ball went out of bounds off a Falcon player. On the resulting inbounds, Thomas hit a jumper with two seconds left to end the quarter with the Bobcats up 17-10.
Â
The Falcons came back strong in the second quarter, holding FSU scoreless for three and a half minutes to tie the game at 17-17. A three from Hall gave Frostburg the lead back at 23-20, but NDC came back to take a one-point lead before redshirt sophomore Kyrsten Joseph got a layup with a minute remaining to take the teams into the half with the Bobcats up 25-24.
Â
Both sides traded leads and ties multiple times throughout the third quarter, with Hall and Thomas supplying a good portion of the offense. The Falcons used four late free throws and more solid defensive work to take a 44-40 lead going into the final period.
Â
Dombroski provided an early spark, hitting a jumper and a three-pointer to get FSU to within one at 45-46. NDC would push back to a five-point lead, from which Frostburg responded with a three from junior Maggie Sharp and a layup from sophomore Samiya Esema to get back to 52-54.
