FROSTBURG, MD. – The Frostburg State softball team completed the season sweep of Notre Dame College this afternoon. FSU won by scores of 9-1 in the first game and 9-7 in the second. Senior Kat Treff was perfect on the day going 6-6 and scoring four runs for the Bobcats.
Â
The two wins on the day move Frostburg to 15-6 on the year and makes the Falcons record 12-14.
Â
Sophomore Shawna Leonard took the ball for the Bobcats in the first game. The Falcons were able to strike first in the game scoring one run in the top of the first inning. The Bobcats answered when senior Sam Carver singled to knock in first-year Sierra Sanderson to even the score. FSU took the lead when senior Taylor McCarty and Carver came around to score on an error by the second baseman. Frostburg added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly from junior Ava Gnibus that scored Treff.
Â
Leonard saw baserunners get on in the second, third and fourth innings and was able to work through them unscathed. Frostburg added on two more runs when Gnibus hit a two-run homer to make the score 6-1. In the bottom of the fifth, the Bobcats only needed three more runs to win by the mercy rule. The first two of those came when a ball from first-year Ryann Darling was mishandled by the shortstop which allowed first-year Ellie Bucheit and McCarty to score. Treff finished off the game with an RBI single scoring Darling and putting the Bobcats up 9-1.
Â
In the second game Frostburg started first-year Sydney Theobald who had a tough first inning giving up three runs but was able to work through the inning and find a grove. The Bobcats were quick to pick up runs with Sanderson scoring on a wild pitch in the first. Sanderson then knocked in two runs in the second scoring Treff and senior Aliyah Ramey.
Â
Notre Dame picked up two more runs in the fourth taking the lead at 5-3. Again, the Bobcats stuck back quickly scoring four in the fourth. Sanderson started things off knocking Treff and darling in on a single. Senior Sam Carver then drove in Gnibus and Sanderson on a hard-hit triple. Frostburg added two insurance runs in the sixth on a sophomore Brianna Powell RBI single and then when she scored on a Ramey hit later in the inning. Frostburg was able to finish off the Falcons winning 9-7.
