Acrobatics & Tumbling Wraps up Weekend at MEC Tournament

FAIRMONT, W. Va. – The Frostburg State acrobatics & tumbling team wrapped up its weekend at the MEC Tournament in Fairmont, W. Va. this weekend. The Bobcats fell in their semifinal meet on Friday afternoon to Fairmont State 256.850-241.475, but wrapped up the weekend on a positive note by winning five event finals on Saturday.

The Bobcats posted two scores in the nines during the compulsory, putting up a 9.275 in the pyramid and a 9.55 in the toss. Frostburg recorded two more strong performances in the Acro event. They notched a 9.6 out of 9.85 in the 5-element, and later posted a 9.6 out of 9.9 in the 7-element.

The Bobcats won the Toss event, beating Fairmont by 0.4 points. Frostburg scored an 8.775 out of 9.0 in the 450 Salto, an 8.7 in the Synchronized toss, and a 9.15 in the Open toss to top the Falcons.

The Bobcats' most impressive score came from first-year Sydney Green in the Aerial Pass in the Tumbling event. With a start value of 9.5, Green was given a score of 9.450. Fellow first-year Abbie Baker would also score in the nines in the Tumbling event, recording a 9.375 in the Open Pass.

Despite the loss, the Bobcats were back on the mat Saturday morning, where they competed in nine MEC event finals. FSU won five of those events, ranking them second in the conference.

The first victory on the day came in the Synchronized Toss, as the Bobcats scored an 8.625 to top scores from Fairmont State and Davis & Elkins. Frostburg followed that up with another win, this time in the Open Toss, by scoring a 9.050.

The Tumbling event was where the Bobcats made their mark, winning three of the six heats. Baker and fellow first-years Mayah Morant and Alexis Palmieri scored an 8.650 to win the Trio Tumbling heat. Sophomore Virginia Kraznay and first-years Sydney Green, Navah Marierose and Kaitlin Bolton put up a score of 8.050 to take home the win in Quad heat. Baker finished off the day for Frostburg by earning the win in the 6-Element heat, scoring a 9.575 with a 9.8 start value.

The Bobcats wrap up their first season in program history at 2-4 overall and 2-2 in MEC play. Their appearance in the MEC postseason was the first for a Frostburg State team since the school joined the conference in 2019.
