Hall's Season High Not Enough in Women's Basketball Loss to #8 Pioneers

FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State Women's Basketball team put up a strong fight in a 90-72 loss against No. 8 ranked Glenville State on Wednesday evening.

The game started out at a fast pace, as junior Ciara Thomas got things started with a layup, then the teams traded buckets throughout the first quarter. Sophomore Rhiana Hall hit FSU's first three-pointer with 3:19 left in the period to knot the score at 15-15. Sophomore Samiya Esema then scored on the next possession to give Frostburg the lead as the teams continued to trade baskets. GSC held a five-point lead at 24-19, but Thomas responded with a three, followed by another Pioneer three to make the score 27-22 Glenville going into the second quarter.

Junior Maggie Sharp hit a three out of the break for the Bobcats to get within four at 29-25. Glenville then went on a run to go up 42-27, which was stopped on a floater in the lane from Hall. GSC would continue putting in buckets, leading 46-29 before back-to-back baskets from Esema got Frostburg some scoring as Glenville would enter the half with a 47-33 lead.

FSU came out hot in the second half, scoring the first six points on a pair of free throws from junior Arianna Briggs-Hall, a layup from Hall, and another layup from senior Morgan Dombroski to cut the deficit to eight. The teams would go back-and-forth for most of the quarter, as Frostburg chipped away, getting to within six on an and-one from Briggs-Hall with 4:22 remaining. The rest of the quarter followed the majority of the game, as GSC kept the Bobcats at arm's reach, going into the fourth quarter up 71-59.

The Pioneers extended their lead to start the fourth, going up 77-61. Hall scored back-to-back buckets to get the score to 82-69, but that would be as close as Frostburg got, as both teams emptied their benches at the end of the game, with Glenville coming out 90-72 winners.

Hall led FSU with 19 points, while Esema also put up a season-high 15 points. Dombroski had a team-high seven rebounds, while Thomas finished with a team-high four assists.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 2-7 on the year, while GSC improves to 8-0. FSU returns to action Sunday, December 12 when they travel to Concord for a 12 p.m. contest. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
