Women's Basketball Beat Senators by Double Digits at Home

FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State Women's Basketball team took home their first win on the young 2021-22 season coming back to beat Davis and Elkins 65-55 and improve to 1-1 in conference play.

The Senators came out shooting in the first quarter taking an early lead hitting four straight threes on the offensive end with three of them coming from Dream Cherry. Those threes propelled Davis and Elkins to a 20-12 lead at the conclusion of the first.

Frostburg State then responded by out scoring the Senators 17-13 in the second behind senior Morgan Dombroski opening up the quarter with back to back buckets putting the game within two scores. The Threes didn't stop from Davis and Elkins but slowly regressed as the Bobcats pulled within 4 at the half making the score 29-33.

In the third quarter the Bobcats started play extremely well on the defensive side of the ball with junior Ciara Thomas being assigned the task of guarding Dream Cherry and excelling holding her to under 30 percent shooting in the entire second half. Dombroski kept it going on the offensive side of things dishing out several key assists to keep the Bobcats within striking distance. Frostburg State had tons of momentum as the third quarter ended 45-48.

Defense was the name of the game as a stellar performance by the Bobcat backcourt of Dombroski and Thomas lead the way with several steals, stops, and key turnovers late. Frostburg State as a whole held the Senators to just 5 points in the entire fourth quarter and capitalized on the offensive end with 18 points of their own to comeback and seal a double digit 65-55 win against the Senators.

With the win, FSU improves to 1-4 while D&E drops to 1-4 on the young season. Frostburg's next opponent will be at home where they face Mansfield on Monday, November 29 at 5:00 PM. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
