PHILIPPI, W. Va. – The Frostburg State volleyball team defeated Alderson Broaddus on the road Tuesday evening. The Bobcats won 3-1 (25-22, 25-13, 28-30, 25-23), fending off a late push from the Battlers.

FSU started the match off with a kill from sophomore Beverly Braun, followed by a service ace from junior Bianca Smalls. From that point on, Frostburg played catch-up with the Battlers, not holding another lead until a kill by sophomore Hayley Delor made the score 22-21. With the lead back in hand, FSU took three of the next four points to close out the first set 25-22.

The Battlers came out hot in the second set, taking the first four points. FSU was able to tie things up at 5-5 on a kill from freshman AJ Thompson. Both teams exchanged points until the score was 12-12, when the Bobcats caught fire, taking 13 of the next 14 possible points.

The Battlers refusing to go away in the match, playing Fostburg tough through most of the third set before taking a five-point lead 20-15. FSU was able to pull back even at 20-20 and led 24-21 after three straight attack errors, but AB was able to extend the set and win 30-28.

The fourth set was closely contested until the Bobcats were able to break away on three straight kills from Braun, pushing lead to 17-12. AB did get back into the set, grinding to a 23-23 tie before the Bobcats closed things out with Thompson and Braun getting the match-winning points

Braun led the team with 20 kills, while junior libero McKenna Houser led the defense with 24 digs.Â
