FROSTBURG, Md.- Frostburg State Volleyball pulled off a huge win against Charleston (WV) on Friday evening in Bobcat Arena, winning 3-1.

In the first set, FSU came out hot, jumping out to an 8-3 lead featuring a couple kills from sophomore McKaily Thompson-Moran. Charleston would storm back to take a 21-15 lead, followed by three Bobcat points to make the score 21-18. The Golden Eagles were able to finish off the set with four of the next six points to win the set 25-20.

Both sides would go back-and-forth for the majority of set two, with neither side leading by more than three points. UCWV took an 18-15 lead which FSU responded to with a 5-1 run to go up 20-19. Facing set point at 24-23, Frostburg responded with three straight points from sophomore Beverly Braun, freshman AJ Thompson, and redshirt sophomore Hayley Delor to take the set 26-24 and even the match at 1-1.

The teams again traded points to start the third set, as four straight Charleston points at 17-14 was answered by five straight Bobcat points to put FSU ahead 19-17. UCWV would fight back to tie the set at 24-24, but a pair of Golden Eagle attack errors gave Frostburg the set 26-24.

In the fourth set, FSU came out on fire, scoring the first seven points with some strong serves from Thompson, eventually pushing the lead to 14-4. Charleston put up a fight, getting back within three at 19-16, but Frostburg held their advantage, scoring six of the final seven points, with the final four from Thompson and Braun to take the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

Braun led the team in kills (19) and digs (18), while adding a pair of aces and a block. Junior Bianca Smalls had a pair of aces and added 13 digs, while Delor also had 13 digs to go along with 43 assists. Sophomore Sydney Hammond came up with several big plays throughout the match, including three blocks to tie the team lead with senior Raven Pratt.

With the win, the Bobcats improve to 8-15 overall while Charleston falls to 15-8. FSU is back in action Saturday, October 30 as they are right back home against West Virginia State, with the match slated to start at 1 p.m. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
