WEST LIBERTY, W. Va.- Frostburg State Women's Soccer extended their win streak to six games with a 3-1 win over West Liberty on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
Senior Lexi Pate got FSU off to a hot start, scoring on four minutes into the right side of the goal on an assist from sophomore Caroline Burton. Sophomore Hannah Thompson would then hit a shot off the post as the Bobcats dominated possession in the Hilltopper half.
Â
WLU would turn the tide on 26 minutes, as Ellie Cunningham equalized with an assist from Isabella Aperfine. Frostburg responded on 39 minutes with a pair of quick-fire goals. The first goal was a nice combination from a pair of freshman, as Keely Knotts assisted Mackenzie Alonso for her second goal of the year. Just 48 seconds later, Burton got on the scoresheet on an assist from freshman Carolyn DeSena, as the Bobcats re-took control of the game 3-1.
Â
In the second half, Hilltopper keeper Olivia Montgomery was forced into several saves, but kept the scoreline at 3-1. FSU would get a couple more shots off, but were unable to find a fourth goal as WLU could not create any more meaningful opportunities as the match finished 3-1.
Â
The win puts Frostburg at 10-2-1 on the year, while West Liberty falls to 6-4. Frostburg continues their road trip on Sunday, October 24 as they travel to Notre Dame (Ohio) for a 3 p.m. match. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
