NORTH CANTON, Ohio. – Frostburg State men's lacrosse team captured its third straight win keeping its unbeaten season alive after defeating the Walsh Cavaliers 12-8 in the East Coast Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference Challenge, Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats move to 3-0 overall on the season while the Cavaliers fall to 1-1.

The Bobcats led 3-1 after the opening quarter.

Walsh scored just 1:04 into play, but the Bobcats rallied with three goals. Sophomore Tanner Donaldson kicked started the offense when he found the net 49 seconds later to knot things at 1-1. Sophomore Jake Bowman handed the Bobcats the lead when he found the net at 7:27 and junior Paul Ruppert closed the quarter with a late tally for a two-goal cushion.

Junior Nick Gallagher opened the second quarter with a goal at 12:41 and Ruppert scored for the second time with a goal at 6:11 off a feed from Bowman.

Bowman handed out his second assist of the first half less than four minutes later when he connected with Donaldson for a 6-1 advantage with 2:25 to play in the opening half.

Walsh narrowed its deficit to 6-2 with the opening goal of the second half. Smoot scored for the second time, this time off a pass from Anthony Munoz with 10:03 showing in the third.

Smoot further narrowed the gap at 6:21 when he found Brent Mitchell for a man-up goal that pulled the deficit to 6-3.

Bobcat junior Jeffrey Stallings scored an unassisted goal with 3:25 left in the third, but Walsh caught fire with four-straight scores to close the third. Sully Dowling scored two of the goals as the hosts evened the game at 7-7 as the contest headed for the final frame.

The Bobcats scored first in the fourth quarter after sophomore Matthew Ward netted a goal off an assist by senior Mike Sipes to take a one goal lead 8-7. Sipes put the Bobcats up by two after scoring two minutes later at 11:27. The Cavaliers answered after another Mitchell goal to cut the Frostburg lead to one, 9-8. Three straight Bobcat goals from Ward, junior Jeffrey Stallings and first-year Chase Buckwalter closed out the game and sealed the win for FSU.

Ruppert lead the Bobcats in scoring with two goals and one assist while Donaldson also recorded two goals with one assist. Both Ward and Stallings also registered two goals in the win.

Senior Jack Marks earned the win in the cage for the Bobcats registering four saves, three groundballs, and one caused turnover. FOGO red-shirt sophomore Sam Natvig went 11-22 at the faceoff dot in the win for Frostburg. Sophomore Peter Karmilowicz caused three turnovers on the afternoon with two groundballs while sophomore Matt Sharkey registered two caused turnovers and six groundballs.

FSU return to action on Thursday when it host Georgian Court. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
