Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Bobcats Set Records In Win At Alderson Broaddus

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Head coach Steve Gartelman talked during the preseason about the momentum his team had and the familiarity of the DII level amongst his coaching staff and through two games this spring, his Frostburg men's lacrosse team seems right at home in their new surroundings.

After slipping past Lake Erie in OT on Saturday, the narrative was quite different on Tuesday as the Bobcats easily cruised past Alderson Broaddus for a 35-4 win.

The Bobcats are 2-0 after the win at AB, but it's how they won that's most impressive. Frostburg set single-game school records in goals (35), shots (82) and shots on goals (18) to go along with 18 assists and 46 ground balls.

The 35 goals are tied for the second-highest single game total in NCAA Division II history, while the points (35 goals and 18 assists) are tied for eighth.

The Bobcats found the net 11 times in each of the first two quarters and led 22-1 at halftime. In the second half, FSU tacked on 13 goals and limited the Battlers (0-2) to just four goals over 60 minutes of action.

Junior Jason Clinton led the attack with five goals and two assists, senior Mike Sipes scored four times with one assist and a total of 21 different Bobcat players registered a point in the win.

FSU won 35 of the game's 41 faceoffs and it was 17-of-18 on clear attempts. Redshirt sophomore Sam Natvig won 17 faceoffs, while redshirt sophomore Cade Price won 10. First-year Evan Dere added eight wins at the X. Senior Jack Marks played just over 30 minutes in net and needed just one save for the victory.

Clinton found sophomore Matthew Ward for the game's first tally just 1:20 into play. Clinton scored the next three goals for the Bobcats and tacked on his fourth midway through the first quarter.

Clinton opened the second quarter with a score at 14:49 and first-year Owen McCallum closed the opening half with the final goal at 1:19.

First-year Dominic Ceresini opened the third quarter with a goal off a feed from first-year Austin Linn with 14:10 showing. Senior Garrett Olds scored the final goal for the Bobcats midway through the fourth.

FSU returns to action on Saturday at Walsh for the East Coast Conference/Great Midwest Athletic Conference Challenge Cup at 2:00 pm.
