Jones' Game-Winner Gives Frostburg State Road Win

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Jamil Jones knocked down a corner three with 1.9 seconds left as Frostburg State snapped their three-game losing streak with a 76-74 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night. The win improved Frostburg's record to 7-10 (4-7 MEC) on the season while West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 7-10 (5-5 MEC).

Frostburg State did not take the lead until the Jones three, and trailed by as many as 12 points in the contest. West Virginia Wesleyan came out of the gates hot, opening up a 10-2 lead just three minutes into action. Sophomore Torrin Stephens was able to register Frostburg's first surge of offense, knocking down a jumper and two free throws early in the first half to help jumpstart the offense.

West Virginia Wesleyan played steady offense in the first half, maintaining at least a six point lead for much of the game's first 20 minutes. At the 2:25 mark, a layup from Wesleyan's Dusan Vicentic opened up a 36-24 lead, the largest of the game for the hosts. However, Frostburg would respond with a quick 8-0 run thanks to baskets from Stephens, seniors Daniel Alexander and Jordan Dawson, and junior Sean Patterson to close the gap to four. West Virginia Wesleyan would score five points in the final five seconds of the first half to take a 41-32 lead into the locker room.

Frostburg would start the second half strong, scoring 11 of the half's first 17 points to make the score 47-43 with 15:37 remaining. Junior Joe Adedayo scored nine of those 11 points to start the half, with seven of the points coming from the free throw line.

After keeping things close for much of the start of the second half, a Vicentic layup opened up a 59-49 lead for Wesleyan, their largest lead of the second half.
Wesleyan found themselves ahead 73-66 with just 2:32 left, but Frostburg State would finish the game on a 10-1 run to take home the win. Adedayo scored six consecutive points to pull Frostburg within one, while Alexander split a pair of free throws to tie the score at 73-73. After Vicentic nailed a free throw with 12 seconds left to give Wesleyan a 74-73 lead, Frostburg would get the ball back with a chance to win.

Alexander let the inbounds pass roll to half court before picking it up, and drove down the lane before finding a wide open Jamil Jones in the right corner. Jones' shot glanced off the far side of the rim, bounced high in the air, and fell through the net to give Frostburg State a 76-74 win.

Jones finished the game with seven points to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Adedayo led Frostburg State with 33 points and 9-11 shooting from the charity stripe.

Frostburg State returns to action on Sunday at Allegany College of Maryland when they take on Fairmont State. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
