Bobcat Men Drop League Tilt At Notre Dame

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Junior Randy Putnam scored in the 64th minute as the Frostburg men's soccer team tried to mount a comeback against Notre Dame before the Bobcats dropped the MEC matchup, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.
 
The Bobcats (3-3-1, 3-2-1 MEC) allowed two first half goals and were outshot 10-2 over the opening 45 minutes.
 
However, in the second half, the Bobcats turned up the intensity and outshot the hosts 5-4. Frostburg's third shot of the second stanza found the net and narrowed the gap to 2-1.
 
At 63:11, sophomore Jose Rodriguez dribbled in from the left side of the field and passed the ball in front of the goal to Putnam, who found the net for his team-leading third goal of the season.
 
Frostburg's best opportunity to tie the game came in the 84th minute when a shot from junior Nilson Ngana was saved by NDC keeper Daniele De Angelis.
 
Lewis Nervock scored the game's first goal for Notre Dame at 22:03 and Niklas Bohlin connected on a penalty kick at 35:15 for a 2-0 halftime advantage.
 
The hosts outshot Frostburg 14-7, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.
 
Sophomore keeper Joel Assal finished with six saves, including five in the opening half. He stopped four shots within the first 21:30 before Notre Dame scored at 22:03.
 
FSU returns to the field on Thursday at No. 24 Charleston at 7:00 pm.
