FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg volleyball team lost the final match of the Frostburg State Tournament 3-0 to Alderson Broaddus, Saturday afternoon.
In a battle of the only two teams left undefeated in the tournament held at Frostburg, Alderson Broaddus handed the Bobcats their first loss of the 2019 season by scores of 26-24, 25-19, and 25-20.
FSU hit .08 against Alderson Broaddus with 33 kills in the match. The Bobcats also collected four service aces and 42 digs as a team. Senior Biamba Tshitenge recorded 10 kills and hit .529. First-year Jacqueline Sterenberg added seven kills and senior Bailey Godlove recorded six kills in the match. First-year Edwyna Lainez earned 23 assists and senior Cori Smothers recorded 11 digs.
The first set was even but a 7-2 run by the Battlers in the middle of the set gave them a 10-7 lead over the Bobcats. FSU took back the lead with a 5-0 run to put it ahead 16-15. The score was all even at 24 points apiece until the Battlers closed out the set to win by two.
In the second set a 7-1 run by the visitors put the Battlers out in front 11-4. Frostburg made the score close but another 7-1 run at the end of the set put Alderson Broaddus up 24-16. A kill by Kiley Sparks handed the Battlers the second set.
FSU took the lead in the middle of the third set with a 6-2 run putting them up 10-7. Frostburg recorded 13 kills in the third set but it wouldn't be enough to force a fourth set. Two kills by the Battlers would earn the win.
The Bobcats next action is Friday September, 20
th when they travel to Chowan University to take on the Hawks. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
