HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Carly Pieri scored with 18 seconds left in the first overtime frame to lift Hope College past Frostburg State in women's lacrosse action, Friday on FSU's final day of its spring break trip.
Sophomore Stephanie King and senior Morgan Cavey combined to score all 11 goals for the Bobcats as they settle at 1-7 overall.
Frostburg fell behind 5-0 just 11:27 into the first half before a fierce rally tied the game at halftime at 5-5.
King scored a free-position goal at 12:49 before she then handed out assists on four-straight goals at 12:10, 7:39, 3:34 and 0:19 to knot things at the break. Cavey was the recipient of all four assists as she closed the first with four goals.
Hope opened the second half with two scores before King scored back-to-back free position goals at 21:29 and 20:36 and sophomore Lindsay Kohlmann found Cavey for her fifth goal at 18:56 as Frostburg surged back into the lead at 8-7.
Hope didn't back down and rebounded with two goals for a 9-8 edge. Frostburg tied the game at 9-9 when King scored at 14:49 and King later scored again at 11:00 that knotted things at 10-10.
Hope took a late lead with a goal with just 55 seconds showing in regulation before King answered again with a tally with just 25 seconds left to send the contest into extra time.
However, Hope earned the win when Pieri scored with just 18 seconds left in OT.
Senior Abigail McClure played the entire game in net for Frostburg and registered 11 saves.
