FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team was defeated in their first game of the season by Randolph-Macon, 17-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets scored the game's first six goals within the first 15 minutes, with the first coming from senior Rachel Jones just 34 seconds into the game. Senior Saunders Riley and sophomore Erin Mattone quickly added the Yellow Jackets' second and third goals 24 seconds apart from each other to give Randolph-Macon a 3-0 lead.
Riley, Jones and senior Hannah Jones added three more goals before Frostburg called a timeout with just over 15 minutes left in the first half. After the brief break in action, the Yellow Jackets picked up where they left off, adding six more goals before the first half ended. At the intermission, Randolph-Macon held a 12-0 lead.
Rachel Jones had three goals and an assist for the Yellow Jackets, while Mattone, Riley and Hannah Jones each had two goals. Bobcat senior Morgan Cavey had three shots while sophomores Maggie Rozsko, Summer Cavey, Lindsay Kohlmann and Stephanie King each added a shot for FSU.
Randolph-Macon outshot Frostburg, 24-7 in the first 30 minutes and held a 13-0 draw control advantage.
The Yellow Jackets started the second half with another goal by Lexi Jones to give them a 13-goal advantage before the Bobcats quickly responded with two goals within 12 seconds of each other, the first from Morgan Cavey and the second from King to get on the board with 25:16 showing on the clock.
Yellow Jackets added four more goals in the game's final 25 minutes and cruised to a 17-2 victory.
Morgan Cavey led the Bobcats with her goal, seven shots and scooping up three ground balls. King had a goal and three shots. Rachel Jones had four goals, six shots and an assist to lead the Yellow Jackets to victory.
Overall, Randolph-Macon outshot FSU, 31-16, and won 15 draw controls to Frostburg's five. Frostburg also collected 18 fouls while the Yellow Jackets were only called for eight fouls.
