FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team defeated St. Mary's (Md.) at home on Saturday afternoon, 79-49, behind 20 points from junior Victoria Diggs and 19 from her classmate, Amanda Emory.
The Bobcats jumped ahead to an 8-0 lead to begin the afternoon thanks to two three-pointers from Diggs. The Seahawks cut their deficit to four points, after a good layup from junior Gina Seifert made the score 16-12 with 55 seconds left in the first quarter. FSU added six more points, two of which came on a Kayla Wilson layup with four seconds remaining, to give her team a 10-point advantage going into the game's first intermission.
Six of Frostburg's 10 points in the second quarter came from Emory, as she added three layups to her ledger. Going into the halftime locker rooms, the Bobcats held a 34-22 lead.
Emory led the Bobcats with 12 points at the half, shooting 5-for-6 from the field in the game's first 20 minutes. Diggs had 10 points of her own with two shots from beyond the arc. Seifert hauled in six rebounds and collected six points for the Seahawks.
Frostburg continued to hold a healthy lead in the third quarter, as their advantage dipped below 10 points just once. Its lead reached 22 points after a 9-0 run that ended with a Diggs three-pointer to make the score 57-35 with just thirty seconds left in the quarter. St. Mary's would add two, but the Bobcats took a 20-point advantage into the final 10 minutes of action.
The Bobcats refused to take their foot off the pedal, as they kicked off the final quarter with a 12-2 run, which featured threes from both Diggs and senior Megan Kelly, to give them a 30-point edge. Frostburg would then cruise to a 77-49 victory.
Diggs sniped a total of four three-pointers, collected five rebounds and dished out four assists. Emory shot 7-of-9 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to go along with five rebounds of her own and four steals.
Cameron Mangold led the Seahawks with 10 points off the bench while Seifert finished with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
As a team, Frostburg shot 30-of-65 (46.2%) from the field against St. Mary's 19-of 52 (36.5%).
Frostburg's record improves to 14-6, 6-4 in conference play, while the Seahawks fall to 5-16, 1-9 in the CAC.
