Four Named To Don Hansen Super Region I Team

CLARION Pa. – The Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Region Committee released the 2019 NCAA Division II All-Super Region 1 Team Monday morning and four Frostburg football players garnered the regional honors.

First-year fullback Lovell Djieya and junior defensive lineman Zach Strand were named to the second team offense and defense respectively, while senior center Wade Olson and senior corner back Mike Bell were both third-team honorees.

The foursome was a big reason why the Bobcats posted an 8-3 overall record and finished in a three-way tie in the Mountain East standings despite the 2019 campaign being the first at the DII level.

Djieya emerged as the Bobcats starting fullback late in the season and helped FSU to sixth in the league statistics in rushing (134.0) and second in time of possession (31:40.)

Meanwhile, Strand led the MEC in tackles for loss (19.5) and tackles for loss per contest (1.63). He also tied for third in the league with 8.5 sacks. He totaled 48 tackles, two forced fumbles and a scoop and score touchdown against Charleston. He enters his final season with 48 career tackles for loss, good for sixth in the career record books.

Olson started all 11 games at center and blocked for an offense that finished fourth in scoring (29.0), sixth in rushing (134.0) and seventh in total offense (327.6). Olson caps his career with 22-consecutive starts on the offensive line.

Bell finished tied for third in the league with a career-high four interceptions. He posted his first interception of the season with a 61-yard return for a touchdown at Concord and all four of his INTs came in league play. He finished with 56 tackles with eight passes defended.

Both Strand and Olson were First Team All-MEC honorees while Bell was voted to the second team.
