Bobcats Head to Break on Two-Game Win Streak

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior Daniel Alexander poured in 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting and Frostburg earned a 87-79 win over Univ. of District of Columbia on Saturday night.

As a team, FSU shot 53% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc, hitting nine of their 18 attempts from long-range. The Bobcats also dished out 24 assists against the Firebirds while accumulating 32 points off the bench.

Junior Joe Adedayo hit the first basket of the ballgame setting the tone with a three-ball. The Washington, D.C. native scored 11 points in the homecoming. FSU carried that momentum to a 10-2 run to start the road contest. District of Columbia responded to tie the ballgame at 10 with an 8-0 run of their own. Frostburg made another run as the Bobcats held a commanding lead of 22-13 with just over 12 minutes left in the first half. 

FSU's lead ballooned to 11 with just under eight to play after sophomore Maurice Carroll, Jr. slammed one home making the score 29-18. The Firebirds made a late rally in the first half sparking a 9-0 run to take the lead at 37-36 with 2:43 left. The half ended with District of Columbia leading 44-43.

Frostburg faced an extended deficit until first-year Jaylon Johnson drilled a three-point shot to cut the lead to one. Both teams went back-and-forth trading leads until the Bobcats went on a 5-0 run highlighted by two Alexander jump shots. FSU grabbed a 70-64 lead with 8:09 to play after sophomore Torrin Stephens made a layup.

Senior Lawrence Pettis, Jr. hit a jumper to give Frostburg an eight point lead with under seven minutes to play. Timely shots gave FSU the advantage at the end of the game after trading baskets with the Firebirds down the stretch. Frostburg ended the second half with 44 points scored and only surrendering 35. 

Carroll, Jr. ended his day with 12 points and five rebounds. Alongside 26 points, Alexander registered eight rebounds and eight assists for the Bobcats which was a season high in assists.
