Men Slip Past Concord 62-58

ATHENS, W.Va. - Sophomore Jamil Jones hit the go-ahead layup with just over two minutes to go and Frostburg earned a 62-58 win over Concord on Saturday night.

The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Bobcats as they improve to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain East.

Jones grabbed an offensive rebound from a sophomore Sean Patterson missed shot and hit the put-back to give Frostburg the 59-58 lead with 2:08 to play.

Frostburg connected on three foul shots after Jones' basket and the Bobcats held the Mountain Lions (4-7, 2-4) without a bucket down the stretch.

Junior Joe Adedayo led all Bobcat players with 13 points and six rebounds and senior Lawrence Pettis contributed 11 points and a team-best four assists.

FSU connected on eight three-pointers and held the host Mountain Lions to just 30.5% shooting (18-of-59).

The Bobcats used a 10-0 run late in the first half for a 14-point cushion at halftime. Pettis and Adedayo knocked down three's just after the 5:00 mark and Pettis later hit two more three's before the half.

FSU led by as many as 17 in the second half, but CU narrowed the gap to just one point on several occasions. The Bobcats pushed their lead back to seven, 55-48 with 6:16 to go, but Concord had one final push.

The hosts closed the gap to one point twice inside the final five minutes and claimed a 58-57 lead on a dunk with 2:25 remaining. Jones hit the eventual game-winner on the ensuing possession.

The Mountain Lions finished with four starters in double-figures and were led by Trey Brisco. Malik Johnson added 15.

Frostburg returns to action next Saturday at the Univ. of D.C. at 3:00 pm.
