Bobcats Split With Elizabethtown

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State swimming teams hosted its first home meet of the season against Elizabethtown College and split a thriller with the Blue Jays. While the women lost 151-107, the men were victorious by a slim 130-129 margin.
 
The women totaled five first-place finishes while seven more first-place finishes propelled the men to victory.
 
First-year swimmer Rayna Cicen and seniors Megan Culbertson and Becca Marsh paced the women with a pair of victories each.
 
Cicen and Culbertson were a part of the victorious 200-meter medley relay alongside sophomore Aubree Morris and first-year Ana Hughes (2:19.00). Cicen claimed first in the 100-meter backstroke (1:17.36) and second in the 200-meter backstroke (2:51.59) at while Culbertson won the 100-meter breaststroke (1:26.55).
 
Marsh took home two individual first-place finishes in the 50- and 400-meter freestyles (30.65 and 5:09.69 respectively), and finished second in the 800-meter freestyle (10:36.55).
 
Additionally, Morris earned a second-place finish in the 100-meter butterfly (1:16.73) and the 100- and 200-meter freestyles (1:08.30 and 2:26.32 respectively), and sophomore Gabrielle Thompson edged out a second-place result in the 200-meter butterfly (2:53.01) and 200-meter IM (2:46.26).
 
On the men's side, junior Anthony Giuseppetti was responsible for three first-place finishes. The junior won the 200-meter freestyle (2:02.53) and backstroke (2:28.06) events, and was the leadoff man in FSU's first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:53.84) with first-year swimmers James Harmon and Quincy Page, and sophomore Luke Russell.
 
Junior Brady Peterson went on to win the 200-meter breaststroke (2:35.15), first-year Myles Henderson (4:41.95) claimed victory in the 400-meter freestyle, and in arguably the most exciting finish of the day, sophomore Adam Stein swam his way to a comeback victory in the 200-meter IM (2:25.24). Finally, Harmon would go on to win the 100-meter breaststroke (1:14.80) to cap a two-win performance.
 
Second place finishes for the men included junior Sawyer Conklin in the 400- and 800-meter freestyles (4:44.48 and 9:41.44 respectively), Russell in the 50-meter freestyle (25.75), Harmon in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:51.80), Page in the 100-meter butterfly (1:04.80), and the quartet of Russell, Peterson, Page, and Harmon in the 400-meter freestyle relay (3:56.90).
 
Frostburg hits the pool on Friday, November 8, as it plays host to York (Pa.) at 6:00 pm.
