Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bobcats Host No. 11 Charleston On Senior Night

FROSTBURG, Md. – On a brisk Saturday night, the Frostburg State men's soccer team celebrated senior night and welcomed the No. 11 team in the nation to the western hills of Maryland. The Bobcats were turned away at home by Charleston 6-1.

The first half was a wild one. Charleston tallied the first two goals of the contest in the 13th and 20th minutes. Jesus Cabanas would score after a feed from Gabriel Rodriguez, and Rodriguez would tack on a penalty kick goal.

1:20 later, senior Blake Geatz headed in a loose ball from the goalie box to get on the board against his nationally ranked counterpart. Geatz, who was one of three seniors honored during pregame, picked up his second goal of the season.

The Golden Eagles responded shortly thereafter, when Cabanas beat out sophomore goalkeeper Joel Assal and lassoed a kick into the right side of the net.

In the second half, Cabanas completed the hat trick, increasing Charleston's lead to 4-1. After both teams put in substitutions for the majority of the half, two more Charleston goals found the back of the net in the final 1:30 of play.

Charleston outshot Frostburg State 16-7, including a 6-4 advantage in the first half despite the Bobcats taking the final three shots. Junior Robert Riffle and first-year Tamino Brown led FSU with a pair of shots. The Golden Eagles also had a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Sophomore Joel Assal played all 90 minutes in net and made three saves.

Frostburg State concludes the season on the road against West Virginia Wesleyan at 7:00 pm this coming Wednesday, November 6.
