FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State football team surrendered four rushing touchdowns to No. 6 ranked Notre Dame (Ohio) as the Bobcats were dealt a 35-13 loss, Saturday afternoon in MEC action.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 7-2 overall on the season and ends their seven-game winning streak. Frostburg opened the game's scoring when junior kicker Jeremy Harrison connected on a 26-yard field goal midway through the first quarter for a 3-0 cushion. It was the longest drive of the afternoon for FSU as the march lasted nine plays and covered 61 yards.
Notre Dame, behind the nation's 13
th-best rushing attack, answered with three-consecutive rushing touchdowns for a 21-3 advantage at halftime.
Sophomore Jale McLaughlin scored two of those rushing TDs including a 75-yarder to close the half.
Harrison booted home a 42-yard field goal late in the third to narrow the deficit to 21-6. However, the Falcons' Chris Brimm tossed 32-yard touchdown pass and McLaughlin found the endzone for the third time as the visitor's lead was 35-6 early in the fourth.
FSU graduate quarterback Will Brunson capped the afternoon with a 10-yard scoring run to set the final at 35-13.
Notre Dame finished with 347 yards on the ground and 472 yards in total offense. McLaughlin, the nation's leading rusher, finished with 215 yards on 23 carries and three scores.
The win pushes the Falcons' record to 9-0 overall on the season and 8-0 in the league.
Junior running back Gavin Lavat led Frostburg's running game with 67 yards on 21 carries, while Brunson threw for 123 yards on 11-of-24 completions. Junior wide receiver Terrell Brown hauled in five passes for 67 yards.
Senior linebacker Wayne Palmer finished with 12 tackles, while classmate Michael Bell made 10 stops with 1.5 tackles for loss. Junior Avery Thurman also contributed 10 tackles.
Frostburg wraps up its home slate next Saturday when it welcomes Kentucky Wesleyan to Bobcat Stadium for senior day at 1:00 pm.
