FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State men's soccer team scored just over two minutes into the game and the Bobcats never let up as they earned a 5-0 win over Concord, Thursday afternoon at a windy Bobcat Stadium.Â
Â
The Bobcats improved to 5-6-1 overall with their fourth shutout of the fall campaign. FSU and Concord battled to a 0-0 2OT draw in early September, but Frostburg left no doubt Thursday.Â
Â
FSU needed just 14 shots for five goals and the Bobcats put eight of those attempts on goal.Â
Â
Junior Youness Benmouna had a hand in Frostburg's first three goals of the game and he scored the afternoon's first goal just 2:07 into action off an assist from first-year Lovet Cheg. Â
Â
Just under 11 minutes later, Frostburg added its second goal when junior Derek Staines scored his first of the season off a double assist from junior Randy Putnam and Benmouna.Â
Â
Benmouna scored FSU's third goal of the opening half when he found first-year Tamino Brown who connected on a low shot that found the right corner of the net.Â
Â
FSU outshot the Mountain Lions (2-6-2, 1-6-2) 9-4 and Bobcat sophomore keeper Joel Assal notched two saves to help keep the Lions scoreless over the first 45 minutes.Â
The Bobcats added a pair of insurance goals late in the second stanza.Â
Â
First-year Louie Kerdock found junior Will Macomber for his first goal of the season at 68:48 and in the 75th minute, Concord was whistled for a foul inside the 18 and first-year Addison Keja converted the penalty kick for the 5-0 final.Â
Â
Assal needed just one additional save in the second half and he finished with three total for his fifth victory of the season.Â
The 5-0 blanking of the Mountain Lions is the largest shutout since FSU defeated Penn State Altoona 5-0 last season.Â
Â
Frostburg returns to action on Sunday at Wheeling University at 4:00 pm.
