MANSFIELD, Pa. – Frostburg State endured a 64-51 loss at NCAA Division II Mansfield on Tuesday night, despite senior Edwin Cole's double-double.
Cole led the Bobcats with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while junior Daniel Alexander scored eight and grabbed eight boards. A total of 12 different players scored for the visiting Bobcats. FSU tied the game in the early going, but never led in the contest as it settled at 9-10 overall.
The Mounties (3-16) used a 16-2 run in the first half to lead by 14, but Frostburg countered with an 11-0 run late in the first to claw back to within three, at 25-22.
Bobcat first-year Bo Schene hit a jumper in the paint at 2:37 to cap FSU's run and junior Terry Kenner hit a jumper to close the half and pull the Bobcats to within six at 30-24 at the break.
Frostburg opened the second half with a quick 6-0 scoring jolt to pull to within two less than two minutes into action. Later, sophomore Trystan Griffith hit a layup at 13:23 to pull Frostburg to 41-38, but the Mounties collected an 11-2 run for a 52-39 lead.
Mansfield continued to extend its lead and the hosts led by 17, 64-47, following free throws from Eli Alvin with 1:00 to play.
Bobcat first-year Kenneth Faulkner closed the night with two layups that pulled the final to 64-51.
Mansfield finished with four starters in double figures as Taylor Sweeney scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds. Tyler Moffe scored 16.
Frostburg hosts Southern Virginia tomorrow in CAC action at 7:30 pm.
