Five Bobcats Hit Double Figures In Win Over SVU

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team returned to Bobcat Arena after a four-game road trip and beat Southern Virginia, 89-76 behind double-digit point totals from five different players.

Junior Lawrence Pettis led the Bobcats with 21 points and seven assists, including three shots from beyond the arc. Senior Edwin Cole followed him with 17 points while juniors Daniel Alexander, Jordan Dawson and Terry Kenner scored 15, 14 and 11 points respectively. Kenner also brought in 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

The Bobcats improve to 6-3 in the CAC, 10-10 overall, while the Knights fall to 4-16, 0-9 in the conference.

The lead changed hands five different times in the first 11:17 of the game, but with the score tied at 24 and 8:35 on the clock, junior Daniel Alexander drained a three-pointer that would give the game its' sixth and final lead change. Alexander followed that with a jumper that gave the Bobcats a 29-24 lead, and they never looked back.

The Knights cut their deficit to just three points after a layup from senior Michael Neufville to put the score at 35-32 with just under five minutes remaining in the half. Frostburg then jumped ahead, going on a 17-9 run and taking a 52-41 lead into the halftime locker room. The stretch was propelled by Pettis, who scored 11 points, including nine straight to end the half.

The Bobcats never let their lead get below 10 points the rest of the way, and even extended their advantage to 22 with 8:54 left in the game when senior Edwin Cole laid in a shot, making the score 77-55.

Southern Virginia went on two separate 8-0 runs to try to make a comeback, but the Bobcats stifled the Knights' momentum and cruised to a 13-point victory, 89-76. The game's exclamation point came with just over a minute left in action, as Cole slammed home a dunk to end his night with authority.

Jamier Cross led the Knights with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Neufville finished with 12 points and six rebounds off the bench.

The Bobcats will welcome St. Mary's (Md.) to Bobcat Arena on Saturday afternoon with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m. For more information, or to watch the game or follow the live stats, visit frostburgsports.com.
