FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State University men's soccer team shutout the Penn State Altoona Lions 5-0 on Wednesday night.
The Bobcats move to 2-4 while the Lions drop to 0-4.
First-year goalkeeper Joel Assal posted the shutout through 82:37 and was relieved by junior Blake Geatz over the final 7:23.
The first four goals for the Bobcats came in the first period. The first goal hit the net at 6:38 from first-year Kaps Kapende, assisted by junior Blake Geatz. Later at 13:41, Geatz would collect a goal after being assisted by sophomore Randy Putnam.
Several shots later by the Bobcats and they would soon claim a third goal as Putnam found the back of the net at 25:54 from Kapende. Less than a minute later, sophomore Andre Lakanu scored an unassisted goal at 26:26.
In the second period, the Bobcats topped the game off with their fifth goal at 56:59 by Putnam.
Bobcat sophomore Mo Odolla led the team with five shots. Sophomores Will Macomber and Randy Putnam, along with first-year Kaps Kapende all had four shots.
Penn State Altoona goalkeeper Tanner Yaw saw a full 90 minutes with 15 saves.
The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Washington and Jefferson with a start time of 1:00 pm.
